The Early Years of India





You are probably wondering who actually discovered India, but the truth is that India was discovered by no one, but Vasco-da Gama discovered a sea path to this country in 1498. India earnt its independence on August 15th 1947 from the United Kingdom also, the Indian Constitution was adopted on 26 November 1949. The cities that occur in India, weren't always known as what they are now. Mumbai was formally known as Bombay, but the name changed in 1996. Madras was formerly known as Chenna, the name was changed in August 1996.

Timeline:

2500 BC - Dravidian Civilisation

500 BC - Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama

326 BC - Alexander the Great moved to India

272 BC - Ashoka Becomes the Emperor of India


700s - Muslim armies from Arabia invade India


1498 - Vasco da Gama becomes the first European explorer to reach India

1628 - Shah Jahan builds the Taj Mahal

1914 - 1914- 1918 WW1

1919 -  The Amritsar Massacre

1935 -  The government of India Act and the creation of the constitution

1946 - The British Government granted India independence

1948- 30th Janurary-  Ghandi was assassinated
